This year is clearly a rebuilding season for the Zards, but I think there are some things we can accomplish, so here is my overview of the 2025-26 Washington Wizards.
Trading Vets
CJ McCollum: I haven't really seen much of McCollum, so I don't know what he's worth. Hopefully we can trade him for some young talent and picks at the deadline. The FO might decide to keep him as veteran leadership, but that's doubtful with his expiring contract.
Khris Middleton: Pretty much the same as CJ here; get some players and picks and hopefully teach the young players.
Young Players to Excel
Tre Johnson: I didn't watch much of the preseason, but from what I can tell, Tre did not impress. He had lackluster shooting, 33% FG and 25% from 3. He also had bad ball control, averaging 1.7 TO. Hopefully he can improve in the regular season, and that was just preseason. Tre Johnson is still an unknown, not having played a single regular season game, but hopefully he can go on to be a great Wizards player.
Kyshawn George: He did pretty well last year, averaging 8.7 points and shooting 32% from 3. His playmaking has much to be desired; he averaged more turnovers than assists last year, something he can surely grow in. He used to be my least favorite rookie last year, but I've grown to like him the most out of last year's rookie class.
Alex Sarr: Sarr was great on defense last season, averaging 1.5blocks and 8.5 rebounds per game. His offense could be better, and there is still the concern that Sarr isn’t a “dog” and doesn’t try hard enough, but he is looking to at least be a good defensive role player. Hopefully Sarr can develop offensively so he is not as one-dimensional.
Bub Carrington: Bub hasn't grown up to his potential, and we need him to do better. He probably won't get as many minutes this year because of McCollum, but it'll be interesting to see what he can do.
Overall this season will be a tough one for the Zards, with many people putting us as the worst team in the league, though that is what we want. What I'm looking forward to this year is not wins but the development of young guys. Here's to the 2025-26 Washington Wizards!
