I was thinking of what to post today and had no real ideas, but then I really started thinking, what is the most prominent feature of the best Rookies or prospects. I think it's one clear component, they are just confident.
One of the big things about when I talk about this, I am ignoring the all time talents, the no.1 picks that we knew were just gonna be different, The LeBron's, The Wembys of the world when I talk about this. The guys who had all the talent, all the trust, they don't have to particularly prove themselves that much to be the best rookie. Im talking about the guys who have risen out of nowhere and look like the best rookies in a class.
To start this I wanted to mention this class, The best player at the start of the class, and the guy who is still my no.1 guy in the class, was Jared McCain. I don't think there was a man anywhere near as confident as McCain, personality wise he isn't someone that ever feels fazed by media and performances, hes a guy that knows what he does and if it ain't working he will continue because he has confidence that he can be that guy every night. he had a game where he went 2/11 from 3 then the next game went 6/11, The volume doesn't change because he is confident that his shot will go in. And when I wanted to compare that to the No.1 pick, in this draft it was Risacher who I have watched every game of due to being a Hawks fan. And I think its quite obvious that he wasn't as confident to start the season, and instead of trusting his ability in his shooting, he searched for other avenues, and while he showed some flashes, he isn't a great finisher like he is a shooter, he just had to be more confident. And that becomes more obvious the longer the season goes that this is true, he looks way more confident since the turn of the year, less inside shots, more threes and because of that, his season averages have climbed and has shot over 40% from 3 this calendar year. It's all in the confidence.
Let's have a talk about a guy who was drafted in the top 10, but wasn't considered that for most of his draft process, Damian Lillard. Some of you are aware of his combine, Dame would've been drafted in a similar area to McCain if it wasn't because of his combine performances. Lillard had a very good combine, and when asked if he should take the risk and keep playing scrimmages, he backed himself and continued to perform and rise. And lets then see what came of this confidence, 6th pick, ROY, one of the clutches performers we will ever see, pulling for 40 feet to ice a series in the playoffs. Confidence man.
These are examples I want to put straight into your mind because its important when evaluating the best prospects in a class, how one might play in the NBA, but also much more than that.
THIS MESSAGE IS FOR YOU: BE CONFIDENT, PLAY HARD, SUCCESS WILL COME
In whatever walk of life it may be, success doesn't come without Hard Work and confidence, and if you are in a competition, you have the ability, just like all these prospects wether they are a bust or not, What separates the Best, is confidence.
