Here is my top 5 at every position in the NBA right now, some positions are changeable, like how I have Tatum at power forward but he can play small forward or how I have Shai at shooting guard but he can play point guard
Point guards
1:Luka Doncic
Luka was arguably the best scorer in the league this year while also rebounding and passing at an elite level, not many other guards can do that all, he’s the whole package
2:Jalen Brunson
He’s one of the most electric scorers right now and can get a bucket from almost anywhere, he’s one of the only things keeping the Knicks from being the choke hub
3:Cade Cunningham
He lead the Pistons to the first seed but a collapsed lung messed up his game for the playoffs and he hasn’t been the same, he’s got insane potential though and he will only get better
4:Tyrese Maxey
Maxey was the only thing keeping the 76ers afloat this year, with Embiid always injured and Paul George on the roids Maxey had to make sure that everything was good by himself and he got that done
5:Tyrese Haliburton
He didn’t play this year but last year he was elite, he lead the Pacers to the finals and almost won, without him they are now looking at a top 3 pick, his impact was more than we thought
Shooting guards
1:Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
SGA is one of the smoothest scorers in basketball, he is probably gonna win MVP this year and he deserves it, he has scored 20 points in so many games that he beat Wilt’s record
2:Anthony Edwards
He’s the best true shooting guard, he only plays the 2, he is an explosive guy and he lifts up everyone around him which is a big reason why the Timberwolves always seem to make runs
3:Donovan Mitchell
Mitchell is one of the best players in the league, he can score at an elite level while bringing plenty of other stuff to the table, he is one of the main reasons why the Cavs are always good
4:Devin Booker
Booker has been one of, if not the best shooting guard in the league for years, he’s been passed by a few guys but he’s been top 5 since like his second year, that’s crazy longevity
5:Derrick White
His offense has been down and I considered not having him up here but people need to understand that his defense is next level, I could make a whole post about his defense alone but I won’t, he deserves at least a top 8 spot
Small forwards
1:Jaylen Brown
He was an MVP level player this year, I think that’s enough to at least have him top 2, he also lead a team that was expected to have a lottery pick, maybe even top 3, to the second seed and possibly a finals run too
2:Kawhi Leonard
He was the only reason why the Clippers stayed afloat but they weren’t really swimming or sinking, they were just stuck floating, he could have had more help but he still lead the team without it
3:Kevin Durant
He’s one of the best scorers in the league still even though he’s getting up there in years and he’s been passed around recently, he’s a lock for 25 points per game and leading the team to a decent record
4:LeBron James
LeBron is 41 and he’s still doing stuff that some players will never do, he was an all star, might have been a pity pick, and then he lead his team to a 3-0 series lead, if he chokes then I still can’t blame him because his whole team was hurt
5:Jalen Williams
He’s one of the best young players in the league, he can play 3 positions and he’s good at all of them, he could probably play all 5 if he wanted to but I think 3 is enough for him right now
Power forwards
1:Jayson Tatum
This one was hard, him or Giannis? I chose Tatum because he’s scoring 25 a night and grabbing 10 rebounds while dishing out 5 assists, and he is playing on a recently repaired achilles and apparently an injured calf
2:Giannis Antetokounmpo
He’s arguably the best power forward but he barely played last year, if he played more then it would probably be him but because of the missed games he never really got in a rhythm and that messed up his whole year
3:Jalen Johnson
He’s a great scorer while also grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out 8 assists, he does everything on offense and he’s still a good defender, he’s the whole package and he’s still young
4:Evan Mobley
He’s one of the best defenders, winning the DPOY last year, and he can provide on offense when needed, he’s one of the best defenders and he is still good on offense
5:Scottie Barnes
Scottie was playing at an elite level on both ends this year, he’s an all defensive level player while also scoring 20 points a game and getting assists, he’s doing everything for the Raptors right now
Centers
1:Nikola Jokic
Averaging 25 points a game is one thing, grabbing 13 rebounds a night is another, getting 10 assists a game usually only happens to one or two players a year, but doing all of those in one season is insane, it might never be matched
2:Victor Wembanyama
The fact that he’s not the best at his position is crazy, it’s mainly because the best player is like basketball Jesus right now but Wemby is the best defender in the league and doesn’t really have a bad area
3:Karl-Anthony Towns
Having KAT at 3 feels wrong but right now the gap between 2 and 3 is so far apart that it needs to be studied, KAT is still one of the best big men in the league, he grabs rebounds and scores at a high level
4:Joel Embiid
Injuries will always make us wonder what could have been, Embiid when he’s healthy is an elite two way player but he’s only healthy for a third of the season at best, when he is healthy though, he’s top 3
5:Alperen Sengun
Sengun is one of the best young players in the league, he can score 20 a night, he can grab 10 rebounds too, and he passes at an elite level too, he’s baby Jokic for a reason, he is just a lesser version of him
