We all know the absolute disaster that was the 2021/22 Lakers. They traded for Russell Westbrook for depth, and he was a bad fit on the Lakers' offense with LeBron and AD. They signed a boatload of washed up veterans, and didn't even make the playoffs as a result. So, what if the Lakers actually made the right offseason moves? Here's my view:
Free agency: I sign Malik Monk (2 year, $10 million deal) in free agency to add shooting. Then, I add some veterans like Melo and P.J. Tucker to 1 year deals and sign Austin Reaves to a 2-way contract.
Trades: sign-and-trade for DeMar DeRozan in exchange for Montrelz Harrell, Talen Horton-Tucker, and a protected 1st round pick (DeRozan signs a 3-year, $80 million contract) instead of trading for Russ
New contracts: re-sign Alex Caruso (3 years, $30 million) and Dennis Schroder (4 years, $84 million) to long-term contracts, while resigning Andre Drummond to a 1-year deal
Substractions: Marc Gasol, Markieff Morris, Ben McLemore, Wesley Matthews, Jared Dudley
Lakers starting lineup: Dennis Schroder, Kentavius Caldwell-Pope, DeMar DeRozan, LeBron James, Anthony Davis
Bench: Carmelo Anthony, Malik Monk, Alex Caruso, Andre Drummond, Kyle Kuzma, P.J. Tucker
So, would all of this actually work in terms of cap space issues and if it did, would the Lakers win the title?
