NBA Cup in the Preseason
The NBA preseason is kinda bland. Outside of Summer League not much goes on and whilst the NBA Cup is a fun idea… making guys play an extra game for like 5K cash is kinda pointless imo. Putting it in the preseason however, accomplishes two things.
Gives those preseason games more meaning
The guys competition for a roster spot will have a real chance to prove their value.., and maybe win a technical ring. Now the stars won’t play as much but it’ll still be entertaining imo.
EXPANSION
This one is kinda obvious… almost all of us want it and Seattle & Las Vegas are the prime candidates. But I think the league should expand to 36 teams.. one per division. (Or in the NW’s case 2 because OKC can move to the SW) 6 new teams would be amazing… which leads me to my next idea…
A Shortened Season
Even if they don’t expand they could shorten the season length.. if it’s 30 teams 76 games could work. You play every team in your division 4 times… that’s 16 games. You play everyone in the other 2 divisions 3 times…. That’s 30 games You play everyone in the other conference twice.. that’s also 30 games. Depending on how many teams the NBA may expand by they could do anywhere between a 70-80 game season
Rebranding the G-League
This seems unnecessary I know but watching a league with teams that are basically the same as their senior counterparts is honestly boring. I feel like it would be better if the teams had their own identities. Now yes, some teams do (the Capital City Go-Go & Rio Grande Valley Vipers) but most don’t. Plus this is important for my last idea…
My idea to “Fix” Tanking
Tanking is now apparently a big issue in the league.. so here’s my idea on how to fix it. The two worst teams in EACH CONFERENCE would face the top 4 G-League teams from that year. (Now this is why it’s important for them to be rebranded - we don’t want two teams in the same league called Warriors, Celtics, Knicks or Kings do we) The teams who win those games either stay or get into the NBA. Now you might be like well “Won’t there be a big talent difference?” And well yes maybe but those G-League would be HUNGRY for the win so that should even it out a bit… Plus you have to be competitive to avoid the last 2 seeds like you can’t expect to go 20-62 and get the 13th seed… that just isn’t happening. You have to win games (like 30 of them) to avoid it so teams would actually be trying to win every night.
