It's time for my CFB awards! I'll name the awards, my Finalists, then finally, my winner! This isn't going to be exactly like it is IRL, but it will be very similar in total. Hope you like it!
Wuerffel Trophy:
My Finalists:
Tanner Wall (BYU)
Michael Taaffe (Texas)
Matt Hofer (Toledo)
My Winner:
Michael Taaffe (Texas)
This was a tough one, all of them are great human beings who have done amazing things. I ended up going with Taaffe although, but it was very, very close.
William V. Campbell Trophy:
My Finalists:
Blake Horvath (Navy)
Sawyer Robertson (Baylor)
Eli Stowers (Vanderbilt)
My Winner:
Eli Stowers (Vanderbilt)
This one was also very tough. I had a hard time choosing between Stowers and Blake Horvath, but I eventually decided with Diego Pavia's top targets.
Burlsworth Trophy:
My Finalists:
Drew Mestemaker (North Texas)
Jordan Faison (Notre Dame)
J'Mari Taylor (Virginia)
My Winner:
Drew Mestemaker (North Texas)
Was this ever in doubt? As much as I wanted to put J'Mari Taylor, Mestemaker is the obvious answer here.
Broyles Award:
My Finalists:
Mike Bobo (Georgia)
Matt Patricia (Ohio State)
Shiel Wood (Texas Tech)
My Winner:
Matt Patricia (Ohio State)
Ohio State has been so dominant on both sides of the ball, this was an amazing hire for the Buckeyes, he's got my vote.
Ray Guy Award:
My Finalists:
Brett Thorson (Georgia)
Evan Crenshaw (Troy)
Palmer Williams (Baylor)
My Winner:
Brett Thorson (Georgia)
Didn't have to punt much but when he did it was effective. Was on the finalist list last year, he's my winner this year.
Lou Groza Award:
My Finalists:
Tate Sandell (Oklahoma)
Aidan Birr (Georgia Tech)
Kansei Matsuzawa (Hawaii)
My Winner:
Tate Sandell (Oklahoma)
He's been very, very accurate and very accurate from deep hitting many kicks over 50+ yards in the biggest moments.
Rimington Trophy:
My Finalists:
Logan Jones (Iowa)
Iapani Laloulu (Oregon)
Jake Slaughter (Florida)
My Winner:
Logan Jones (Iowa)
Great C. Gave him the nod after earning first team all Big Ten.
Joe Moore Award:
My Finalists:
Indiana
Iowa
Oregon
My Winner:
Indiana
Had an incredible season going undefeated. Protected Fernando Mendoza all year, giving them the award.
John Mackey Award:
My Finalists:
Michael Trigg (Baylor)
Eli Stowers (Vanderbilt)
Justin Joly (NC State)
My Winner:
Eli Stowers (Vanderbilt)
Was a star this year catching passes from Diego Pavia. Think he gets it here.
Ted Hendricks Award:
My Finalists:
Rueben Bain Jr. (Miami)
Cashius Howell (Texas A&M)
David Bailey (Texas Tech)
My Winner:
David Bailey (Texas Tech)
Bailey was so dominant at TTU this year. Him and Jacob Rodriguez was a scary defense, Bain slides in at 2, but I don't think it was a question on who gets this.
Shaun Alexander Award:
My Finalists:
Julian Sayin (Ohio State)
Malachi Toney (Miami)
Bear Bachmeier (BYU)
My Winner:
Julian Sayin (Ohio State)
Sayin was a star this year for Ohio State. In his first year as OSU QB, he led them to a near perfect record leading up to the playoffs, and could lead them even further.
Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award:
My Finalists:
Diego Pavia (Vanderbilt)
Fernando Mendoza (Indiana)
Gunner Stockton (Georgia)
My Winner:
Gunner Stockton (Georgia)
In the award for the top upperclassmen, I'm going Stockton. Any of the other three could've won in my opinion, but I'm going for Georgia's Gun slinger (Pun intended).
Lombardi Award:
My Finalists:
Arvell Reese (Ohio State)
David Bailey (Texas Tech)
Jacob Rodriguez (Texas Tech)
My Winner:
Jacob Rodriguez (Texas Tech)
In an award that I have two Texas Tech players, I've got the guy with the great mustache.
Outland Trophy:
My Finalists:
Spencer Fano (Utah)
Logan Jones (Iowa)
Kadyn Proctor (Alabama)
My Winner:
Spencer Fano (Utah)
In a great year for the Utes, Fano has been one of the standout performers. Fano has been dominant on the Line, giving him the nod.
Butkus Award:
My Finalists:
Arvell Reese (Ohio State)
Kam Robinson (Virginia)
Jacob Rodriguez (Texas Tech)
My Winner:
Jacob Rodriguez (Texas Tech)
As much as I wanted to put Kam Robison, he just hasn't played enough this season to justify him for this award. So for that, I'm going with his former Wahoo teammate, Rodriguez. I've already had him win an award or two, but the season he has had makes him deserve all this.
Jim Thorpe Award:
My Finalists:
Mansoor Delane (LSU)
Caleb Downs (Ohio State)
Leonard Moore (Notre Dame)
My Winner:
Caleb Downs (Ohio State)
Downs has been so good this season, being nominated for many awards, including one he shouldn't be in (was top like DE or something). It just made sense to go Downs here.
Doak Walker Award:
My Finalists:
Kewan Lacy (Ole Miss)
Jeremiyah Love (Notre Dame)
Ahmad Hardy (Missouri)
My Winner:
Jeremiyah Love (Notre Dame)
Heisman Finalist, should easily be the winner here.
Biletnikoff Award:
My Finalists:
Makai Lemon (USC)
Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State)
Carnell Tate (Ohio State)
My Winner:
Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State)
Despite Makai Lemon being announced as the winner, I think Smith deserved it more. Smith was top 10 in Heisman voting, which proves that he had a stellar year at the WR position. Think he deserved it more.
Davey O'Brien Award:
My Finalists:
Marcel Reed (Texas A&M)
Julian Sayin (Ohio State)
Fernando Mendoza (Indiana)
My Winner:
Fernando Mendoza (Indiana)
Another award for him, and it may not be his last here.
Chuck Bednarik Award:
My Finalists:
Caleb Downs (Ohio State)
Jacob Rodriguez (Texas Tech)
David Bailey (Texas Tech)
My Winner:
Jacob Rodriguez (Texas Tech)
His final award from me tonight, he has been so dominant on the defensive side of the ball, he gets my nod.
Coach Of The Year:
My Finalists:
Curt Cignetti (Indiana)
Clark Lea (Vanderbilt)
Tony Elliott (Virginia)
My Winner:
Curt Cignetti (Indiana)
As much as I want to put Elliott, the season that Cignetti led Indiana through has been nothing short of amazing.
Maxwell Award:
My Finalists:
Fernando Mendoza (Indiana)
Jeremiyah Love (Notre Dame)
Julian Sayin (Ohio State)
My Winner:
Fernando Mendoza (Indiana)
Another award for Mendoza, has been nothing short of amazing.
Finally, here's the one you've all been waiting for.
The Heisman Trophy:
My Finalists:
Jeremiyah Love (Notre Dame)
Jacob Rodriguez (Texas Tech)
Julian Sayin (Ohio State)
Fernando Mendoza (Indiana)
With that being said, My Winner:
Fernando Mendoza (Indiana)
This year has just been THAT good for Mendoza and the Indiana Hoosiers. It seemed like he all but secured the coveted award after his stellar performance in the Big Ten Championship game.
