For as long as I can remember the consensus about the 2022 NBA draft class is that it is just not very good. For a while I believed that, but the more I look into the prospects in this class the more intriguing the draft gets to me.

While there may not be a ton of potential superstars in this class, there is a lot of depth. In my opinion the prospects in this draft can be divided up into 4 main groups.

The first group is the superstar /all nba caliber group. In my opinion this group is made up of 5-6 prospects. None of them are sure things tho. This group is smaller and riskier than it has been in previous drafts.

The second group is the all star caliber players. These are guys who I could realistically see being solid 2nd or 3rd options on championship teams. This is where this class begins to separate itself from others. This group of prospects has guys who could be picked in the top 10 all the way to guys who are projected second round picks.

The third group is the solid starter level players. These guys aren’t quite all star level guys, but are higher level guys than a bench role player. This group of prospects could also be picked anywhere from the top 10 all the way to the second round.

The fourth and final group of prospects is the high level role players. These are players who probably won’t be full time starters, but who could play very important roles on contending teams in the future. These prospects are guys projected to be second round picks and undrafted guys.

This class may not be as flashy as ones in years past. There may not be a lot of “sure thing” prospects. The one thing this class has going for it is it’s depth. The range from the late teens - the end of the draft is very fluid. Guys could be projected 30th in one mock and undrafted in another.

This classes depth makes me believe that in the future this draft class could be looked at as one of the most important in modern NBA history. This draft class has the potential to greatly effect the future of the league. Almost all teams have stars, but it is the other players around them who effect the outcome of the game the most.
