My first five teamer so here we go
Denver:
Assume the new GM wants the team to get off Murray and Porter to freshen the roster. Another thing the GM wants is the roster to be add more shot creation at SF. RJ Barrett can provide a younger and faster playstyle to match Denver's faster paced offence. Jerami Grant, who underperformed due to injury, would replace MPJ and inject more ball handling & defense as the 3rd/4th option. Duncan, JJJ, and Reath bolster bench depth.
Portland:
Jerami's contract is too big and long (woah) for their timeline. While he is not a terrible player, Portland likely has to give some picks away to get off his contract. Getting expiring contracts helps clear cap space at the end of 2026 season for their FO to extend/sign other players.
Toronto:
The Raptors have a surplus of solid guards in Gradey and Ochiai with RJ Barrett's contract seemingly taking up too much cap space to keep the team balanced. While it is hard to gauge the value of RJ, I think a very good first with a couple of seconds should be fair. Also, Toronto gets Smart for similar reasons with Portland getting Rozier, it saves space in the future.
Wizards:
Wizards get MPJ and a good pick swap (assuming WAS is no longer butt in 5 years) for Smart and Kispert who are movable players. This team is likely going to tank for 1-2 more seasons at which point MPJ would be an expiring contract that can be moved or resigned at a fairer salary.
Heat:
Assuming talks for KD fall flat and Giannis being a pipe dream, Miami can upgrade at the PG position whilst getting out of Rozier and Duncan's overpaid contracts. JJJ has lost a large amount of minutes on the team which Denver can use off the bench. The protected first is mainly for taking Rozier and Duncan off the team for a much better player in Murray.
