5 Predictions for the Deadline Part 2: Hawks trade for another star, Jazz move off a pricey frontcourt piece

This is the second part of my ongoing series.

For Atlanta: The Hawks are now the team in the NBA that is best equipped to make a blockbuster trade, with plenty of tradeable salaries, like Kispert, Okongwu, McCollum, Landale, Dort, Hield, and even Dyson Daniels. They also have young players in Newell, Ejiofor, Carter and Flemings, along with draft capital. And Jalen Johnson seems more like the type of player to need another star rather than carry an offense himself. Other stars to trade for could include D'Aaron Fox from San Antonio, Jamal Murray from Denver, or Kyrie Irving from the Mavericks. While losing Okongwu hurts, and a pick swap, two seconds and a first is a lot, Markkanen could be a great complementary piece next to Johnson in the forward spots. The guards would be NAW, McCollum, Flemings, Carter and Daniels, the forwards would be Dort, Johnson, Markkanen, and Wiggins, and the bigs would be Landale, Ejiofor, Newell and Gueye

For Utah: The Jazz are done with tanking. However, trading Markkanen could be beneficial to Utah long-term. With Ace Bailey, Darryn Peterson, Keyonte George and Jaren Jackson Jr all looking like they are the long-term guys, selling high on a 29 year old one time all star who has never been in the playoffs seems wise. Here, they get a center to play next to JJJ, shooting, and solid draft capital. Other teams that could be landing spots for Markkanen include Detroit, Golden State, or Houston. I really like what they are building in SLC.
