Fred VanVleet's unfortunate ACL injury before the start of the season threw a wrench into what figured to be a promising year for the Rockets. Although they still possess plenty of talent to make noise in the regular season, it is challenging to envision Houston making any meaningful noise in the playoffs due to their lack of ball-in-hand playmaking. If Houston can stomach trading FVV in light of his injury and given his presence and leadership with the team, CJ seems to be the most realistic and ideal replacement.
CJ would immediately relieve pressure from Durant, replace some of the veteran leadership lost with FVV, and add backcourt depth and versatility with his ability to play on or off the ball for a team that desperately needs both shooting and shot creation.
For Washington, they continue their impressive rebuild by clearing up minutes for Bub Carrington, Tre Johnson, and company while stacking another asset with the pick.
