Come January 15th, I think this is a viable + beneficial trade for all three teams.
Hawks: Move Trae Young for an athletic finisher to play off Johnson (Kuminga), Upgraded bench scorer and veteran locker room presence who isn't such a defensive liability (Powell), 3+D versatile backup PG who fits Atlanta's timeline. They take Fontecchio to make the money work (just until the end of the season). Lastly, you get FRP from Miami and continue to add to your stockpile of young talent.
Heat: Get a star playmaking guard, making things easier on Hero and a strong PnR partner for Adebayo. The benefit of being in a great market is that you have a solid shot at resigning him in 2027 if things work out. You take Santos and replace some front-court minutes, and you need to sign two cheap free agents.
Warriors: End the Kuminga saga and get two role players that fit the GS play style and timeline more. Alexander-Walker adds some needed guard depth on both ends and fits well into Steph/Jimmy/Draymond lineup. Jaques adds some young bench depth at the 3/4 spot and is a perfect fit for their High-IQ, free-flowing play style.
I honestly think this trade is a home run for Atlanta and Golden State. It is a high-risk, high-reward play for Miami, especially if they had to give up a FRP. Young and Hero as a backcourt is really tough defensively. That said, I think Young fits really well with their core and is a very hard offensive talent to come by. Powell is under an expiring contract with 1-2 years left with any significant trade value. Jaques and Mitchell are good young players but not difference makers needed to make run in the East.
Furthermore, it's hard to see the Heat's assets being attractive enough to get a Giannis deal done. I could see them preferring Lamelo to Young if he became available, though I don't know if Miami's package is as attractive to the Hornets (who are clearly in rebuild mode... and I'm not so sure they are ready to move on from Ball this soon). I would guess they would for sure want the Miami 2031 FRP as well. My point being, I think this might be the best blockbuster deal available to the Heat if they were interested in doing one.
I am curious to hear what y'all think. Is this beneficial for all sides involved?
