OKC finally gets a starting PF and size around Chet. Also a + rebounder who can shoot, dribble, pass. Another + defender too!

SUCCESS

So this is a pretty simple trade. I am not sure about the trade I know every single team OVER values their own players, and undervalues other teams. This is ESPECIALLY true with younger players because they think their ceiling is exponential. Let me break this down.

For OKC this fills SO many team needs. OKC is in an incredible position RN to be able to be a true contender the next 2 years before extension kick in for Chet and Jdub. This HAS to be maximized it will be SO much harder to build a contender with the financial implications.

The Trade

Wizards recieve:

Cason Wallace Ousmane Dieng 1st rounder from Utah top 10 protected, 2nd rounder (Utah) (I actually suspect that the Wizards would say no because they may have better offers, ultimately OKC has so much draft capital they will never be able to roster all of those picks so eventually need to move some of them.

Why the wizards make this deal.

The wizards dont have any 1st rounders in the 2025 draft, and this would give them at least a shot at getting a lottery pick with some luck if the Jazz pick doesnt land top 10. I am skeptical about them giving Deni up at all, he is still 23 but the hope is that Ousmane Dieng can develop into his replacement, hes really raw but there is a lot of potential, but also they're getting a young tenacious guard whos ceiling is really unknown. So the bet is on 2 shots at talent rather than a bet on Deni who is probably going to be a very high end role player but nothing more.

I am not going to go into a full roster thing because washington is in such flux however.

IF jordan poole became anything like he was in GSW Cason is an amazing backcourt pairing, or Cason + Jones same thing. Any undersized defensive negative needs a strong POA defender as a pair. Just like GS did with Curry and Klay for years (in their prime) I view Cason as a starting SG in the league, as long as his shot is legit, although he was very consistent from 3 and played in high leverage moments he showed out. Potential all defense teams in his future

Why OKC makes the deal.

OKC has 34 picks, there is no way to roster all of those picks period. They are extremely particular in the types of players they want. With their 5 out offense they want players who can do a variety of things at a high level. Deni is a perfect match, he is a good not great shooter but thats on a bad wizards team) however he is one of the best cutters in the league and smart player, playmaking upside and grabs 7 rebounds. At 6'9 with solid frame / build hes perfect to pair with chet in the front court. If I was OKC I would look at our guard rotation and think that while it would be AWESOME to keep Cason, Deni is a much better roster fit fulfilling so many needs. They should resign both Joe and Wiggins, which gives them a ton of perimeter players.

OKC roster

SGA Dort Jdub Deni Chet

2nd Unit

Caruso Joe Wiggins Jwill

Free Agents they still have a lot of cap space to fill out the front court, Naji Marshall, maybe 1 year deal on Nicolas Batum. I really like hartenstein for OKC but he wants a longer deal and he will eat too much cap space during extension of Jdub and Chet HOWEVER if they can get him id do it. He can easily slide into the starting rotation IF chet gets hurt, also matchup dependant they can shift Chet to the 4 Deni to the 3 and play a huge lineup thats also versatile.
