Both KAT and Trae are elite offensive talents, but flawed players. Both are on enormous contracts. Both would likely improve in new environments. This trade doesn’t involve and draft picks because the talents are even, as is the risk.

For Atlanta, they add some much-needed maturity in veterans Conley and Prince and finally shed the John Collins contract. KAT and Dejounte Murray would immediately become one of the league’s premier ballscreen duos.

For Minnesota, they add an elite backcourt partner for budding superstar Anthony Edwards. And Trae’s defensive pitfalls are minimized with Ant, Jaden McDaniels, and Rudy Gobert behind him. Plus, Collins fits in nicely as a much more athletic complement the plodding Gobert, that can also play small ball center with SloMo.
