Clarkson has seemed to been a net negative on the Jazz so far with his iso ball, his skill set overlaps a ton with Collin Sexton, and guys like Keyontae George need more on-ball opportunities. He’s also seriously overpaid at 23 million this year, with two more years left on his deal. The Jazz get to move him for two expiring deals on players who fit their system better, while only having to move a late future first (which they’d probably protect) for a decent second this year.

For the 76ers, they don’t need forwards as much after adding Batum, Covington, and Oubre in the off-season. Morris has been useful with Oubre back, but he’s likely the one to get squeezed out of the rotation when Oubre returns. However, they need a guard that can create his own shot other than just Maxey, as each of Melton, Pat Bev, and Springer don’t really do that. Neither of the guys they’re giving up are long term pieces, and they do get pick compensation in addition to getting theoretically the best player.
