Welcome back to the Raptors Rebuild series by kawntent sports! In this deal, Pascal Siakam is headed to Boston for a package centered around Robert Williams, Malcolm Brogdon, and picks. The Celtics are one of the few contending teams with the assets to trade for a star, mainly due to their masterful handling of the Porzingis trade, so they are the team that comes to mind for me when I think of an All-Star being dealt as is the case with Siakam.
Why the Raptors do this:
This is one of the best options out there for a rebuilding Raptors squad to trade Siakam. Not only do they get a solid pick arsenal, they also get a decent scorer who can play good and be a trade deadline asset in Brogdon and a defensive-minded center who fits their timeline better in Robert Williams. This helps them further build out their core along with Jaden Ivey and Scottie Barnes.
Why the Celtics do this:
The Celtics have a true star trade package just waiting to be dealt. They netted picks in the Porzingis trade that are just begging to be dealt for a fourth star, and that’s what they get here in Siakam. He pairs nicely with the offensive minded stars in Boston bringing solid defense and athleticism, and brings additional star power while also being the type of star to not complain and make a fuss. Siakam also has a ring so brings championship pedigree to this young team. They also manage to retain Jaylen Brown, Al Horford, Derrick White, and other core pieces which would not have been possible just a few months ago in a star trade.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments! Is this the best the Raptors will get? Should the Celtics trade their assets for a fourth star? Tell me your perspective, I’ll be interested to hear what you all are thinking of this unique trade!
