Nuggets Re-Build

SUCCESS

Fanspo logo

PG - Poole SG - Braun SF - George PF - Smith Jr C - Jokic

6 - Westbrook 7 - Whitmore 8 - Watson 9 - Pick 3 (Bailey/Edgecomb/Johnson) 10 - Bona

11 - Pickett 12 - Tyson 13 - Holmes II 14 - Saric 15 - Available ($5.7M TPMLE)

Total Salaries (Less $5.7M TPMLE) = $193.50

They'd be under the first apron if they signed a min. contract instead of the TPMLE for the 15th spot. They'd also still have their 2031 FRP that I think they could combine with the 3rd pick to go after Harper because he would probably be the best fit here.

Poole isn't the player Murray is, but he is the tier below and is more reliable to be on the court. With Jokic, you also don't need a true PG to make the offense work.

I don't think Braun has much more upside to him, but he is an extremely efficient player playing off of Jokic. I'd hold off on an extension though and see what RFA brings back. Worst case, he's a sign-and-trade candidate next offseason.

George, if healthy (would need to be treated w/ kid gloves), could provide some additional playmaking they desperately need along with solid defense.

Smith Jr., in my opinion, could easily play the MPJ role in their current system, especially if they stick with Adelmen as their HC. He's not the shooter MPJ is, but he can defend a lot better and provide some semblance of rim protection they didn't have this past year.

If Westbrook stays, he's worth $3.5M as a backup PG. Good news is they wouldn't have to ask more of him. If he opts out, I think it would be smart to use the TPMLE on a back-up PG or someone who can run a 2nd unit offense (Cowboy Bruce!).

Whitmore brings scoring off the bench and I think he has a lot of upside. I think he could also be a solid 2A contingency plan for the inevitable PG13 injuries to happen in the future...

Watson's role would remain the same, albeit with less of a demand for offensive production.

The 3rd pick (presumably Ace Bailey or VJ Edgecomb) would provide additional 2nd Unit Wing production, getting them guaranteed NBA minutes their rookie season and being option 2B of the PG13 injury contingency. I like Edgecomb more as a prospect, but Bailey more for his fit. Playing alongside/with PG13 would help him develop his game in a similar fashion.

Lastly, Bona had a solid rookie season and for $2M next year, is a fine back-up center candidate while they see what Holmes II can do.
