The OKC Thunder are finally prepared to cash in on the accumulation of first round picks in order to land a superstar for the franchise. SGA is already a top 10 player but now they add arguably the best offensive player and playmaker in the game today with fan favorite Luka Doncic. A superstar combo of Doncic and SGA will rival any other teams superstar duos in the NBA and immediately become favorites to win the Western Conference. Doncic and SGA is as good as Tatum and Brown, Durant and Kyrie, Steph Curry and Klay, LeBron and Anthony Davis, Kawhi and PG, etc. For the Dallas Mavs this trade acknowledges that they just do not have the assets to properly surround Luka Doncic with a championship roster anytime soon. Rather than wait for Luka to request a trade in 2 years after the playoff losses pile up they are getting the most assets possible for a young superstar in the form of a record breaking 11 first round draft picks from the Thunder. In addition they are getting back the #2 overall pick Chet Holmgren and Lu Dort an underrated solid 3 and D player. The Mavs will be set for a very promising rebuild arounf Holmgren, Dort and their stockpile of draft picks and cap space. Dallas is a very good free agent destination in terms of low taxes and weather so if the Mavs hit on some of their draft picks it should not be hard for Marc Cuban to rebuild a contender in the West especially with so many of the all star talent getting old such as the Warriors, Lakers and Clippers all having old superstars. Thunder win this trade in the short term but in the long run the Mavs might have a new Dirk Nowitzki in Chet and are also loaded with picks its definitely a win win deal even if in the immediate aftermath the Mavs fans might be very upset at losing a generation talent like Luka. The bottom line is if you are in this league to win championships you have to know when your team needs a full reboot and they have already peaked and unfortunately for the Mavs they are simply not in a "win now" position and won't be anytime soon because they lack the assets needed for a legit top 10 player to add to Luka. The OKC Thunder on the other hand are very ready to acquire a superstar to pai with SGA and go all in for the title hunt.
