It’s no secret that the TWolves have every intention of trading Randle away given that he just doesn’t quite fit in their style of play. The consensus on Randle is that he doesn’t quite fetch the same market value as most all star caliber forwards. That should come as no surprise given that he’s not easy to play with. Randle is a more traditional style 4 but is more ball-dominant than anyone cares for. With that said, I would rule out contenders all together. That brings us to the lottery teams.
The Blazers have a lot of assets that they clearly don’t really care for. Last season they signed Jerami Grant to a max contract in hopes of keeping Damian Lillard, only for him to ask for a trade days later. Grant himself is not an easy asset to trade. Getting paid around $30 million for a non-star starter is a hard sell. Luckily for the Blazers they may have just found the perfect suitor. Grant is a rare talent, 6’8” - 6’9”, long arms, athletic two-way PF with a decent 3pt%. This might just be exactly what the Wolves need barring a secondary star for Edwards.
Randle’s contract has a player option for next year, however it goes down from 33M to 30M. Not to mention, for a team struggling to find its identity, an all star caliber vet might just be what these young guys need.
