Suns Retool/Pelicans add Starpower

SUCCESS

Suns get depth and a borderline star in Ingram (but only on a 1-year contract), another backup PG to run tandem with Morris, a reliable forward, and some likely late 1st round picks in '25 (LAL) and '27 (MIL), two years they otherwise wouldn't have any. If Ingram doesn't work out or wants a mammoth contract by season's end, they can let Ingram go in free agency and comfortably drop below the luxury tax while still being able to field a decent team for 25-26. The Suns' rotation for '24-'25 though becomes: Booker, Beal, Ingram, Jones, Nurkic. Sporting a backup rotation of Morris/Alvarado, Alvarado/Okogie, Allen, O'Neale, Plumlee. I imagine they'll run some sets with Alvarado or Morris in the starting rotation to let Beal score on the second team. Bol, Dunn, Little, Lee, Gillespie and co. can fill out the additional depth spots.

Pelicans starting five becomes Murray-McCollum-Murphy-Durant-Williamson which is extremely strong to compete for a title. They give up none of their own picks, a backup PG, a solid starter but never a star in Jones, and Ingram on the last year of his deal for Durant. Durant while older, still averaged 27/6.6/5 last year, and looks like a bucket for at least two more seasons. Plus, he has a halo-effect in that he makes other players around him better by drawing attention on offense/covering down on defense and, from a business standpoint, generates increased interest in a franchise all on his own.
