Lakers prob don't have enough to get Herb from asset perspective if a bidding war starts for him. But since DJM is owed 30mm thru 2028, this can be their edge other teams arent willing to cross, since hes coming off achilles and is most likely seen as a negative contract. Lakers take gamble that he can regain 80% of his play pre-injury, and becomes a serviceable option as a 2-way guard Lakers desperately need. If he pans out, he can slot into starting role next season when Bron is off the team, pushing Luka to the 4 defensively, his natural position. If he doesnt pan out, Lakers can try offloading him before summer '27 when Giannis and Jokic are FA's.
Pelicans can maybe get 2 firsts for Herb, but he is having a down year after being injured most of last year. Not sure how many teams are willing to send 2 firsts, but he will no doubt fetch one. They come off of DJM long term money and replace it with shorter and smaller vando contract thru '27, and in process pick up a 2031 FRP, which has potential to be really good depending on how pelinka manages the roster.
