Dallas has weirdly been rumored to want to take chances on a few young draft "busts" including Cam Reddish and Mo Bamba. I think Jaxson Hayes makes a ton of sense for them regardless of whether or not Kyrie stays (Granted that's always the issue). He blocks shots at a really high level, though he does have trouble with defending without fouling. He has some incredible agility and foot speed for a big, meaning that there is potential for him to compensate for Luka's and Kyrie's defensive lapses on the perimeter. If he gets caught in a switch or loses his matchup he can use his length and advanced leaping ability to get himself back into the play and block a shot or at least get a good contest in if he doesn't foul, which again, is a huge problem. He does get disengaged quite a lot and could potentially be a liability on offense, but there's reason to believe that he could improve on both of those concerns with the Mavericks in particular. Luka has never had an elite rim runner who can just take off after a rebound is pulled down like Hayes. Hayes has become a pretty decent cutter off the ball and his perimeter shooting may be more intriguing than some may choose to acknowledge. You can't really just ignore him on offense because he is always a threat to grab an offensive rebound or cut toward the basket for a lob. He'll thrive in transition with Kyrie, he could thrive with Luka in the half-court with Luka, and he has the potential to grow as a handler and shooter, giving the Mavs even more flexibility going forward.
