GS
Golden State acquires DeMar DeRozan from the Spurs in exchange for Andrew Wiggins, Kevon Looney, 2021 Minnesota first-rounder, and a 2021 second-round pick. The Warriors do this to make the playoffs next year, following the news of Klay Thompson's injury earlier on. DeRozan would play SG for a year on the Warriors, and then when Klay Thompson returns for the 2021-22 NBA season, he would be the Warriors starting SF. The Warriors now find the perfect slasher to pair with Curry in the backcourt, and looking ahead to the future, DeRozan perfectly meshes with the Splash Brothers, who would complement his game spotting up for threes as he drives to the basket, and are of similar ages as him, as Stephen Curry is a year older than DeRozan, whereas Klay Thompson is a year younger. With Curry and DeRozan perfectly complementing each other in the backcourt, Golden State should make the 2021 NBA Playoffs:
Curry - DeRozan - Oubre Jr. - Green - Wiseman
Curry - Thompson - DeRozan - Green - Wiseman (2021-22 On)
SAS
San Antonio acquires Andrew Wiggins to be their starting SF for the future, and also receive Kevon Looney as an additional frontcourt piece to provide depth. Furthermore, they receive the EXTREMELY valuable 2021 Minnesota first-rounder, as the Timberwolves are likely to miss the playoffs. This should certainly help the Spurs rebuild, and move on to the next Spurs team for the future. The Spurs also receive a second, and with Wiggins coming as DeRozan's replacement, further center depth in the form of Looney, and an extremely useful 2021 first, this tremendously guides the Spurs in their rebuild. It is very likely that the Spurs enter the 2021 NBA Draft, with TWO top 10 picks, which is an extremely advantageous position for a rebuilding team.
Golden State makes a win-now, power move, as the Spurs receive a young wing and a VERY valuable first which helps them rebuild.
Is this a good trade?
