It’s highly speculated that if the Cavs extend Donovan Mitchell, they’ll look to trade Darius Garland. In this trade I have Garland being traded to San Antonio.
Garland and Wemby I fell like would be a better fit than Trae Young and Wemby, and Garland wouldn’t cost as much as Young. Garland doesn’t need to score to have an impact, and is one of the best playmakers in the league. Having a guy like him pair up with Wembanyama would do wonders for the reigning Rookie of the Year.
In the deal, I have the Cavs receiving Keldon Johnson, Zach Collins, Siddy Cissosko (for salary purposes), and the 4th overall pick in this year’s draft. Johnson should be a good piece to have on this Cleveland squad, and would likely come off the bench. Collins would add some depth at the big man positions which will be needed after what we saw last season with Mobley and Allen going down for extended periods of time. With the draft pick, I’d expect them to take Stephon Castle out of UCONN. Castle is a big guard at 6’6” and I think would be solid next to Mitchell in the backcourt. Castle doesn’t necessarily need to have the ball in his hands as well, which would benefit the Cavs with the ball in Mitchell’s hands more often. They could even bring Castle off the bench of they aren’t comfortable with a rookie starting at the point.
