Nice simple one for one swap.
From the Cavs side, the idea is simple. Sexland is a great name for a backcourt duo, but Garland is the keeper in the duo, and running a pair of small guards puts a ceiling on their point of attack defence. One of the two has to go, and the Cavs are facing a tough decision in the summer with Sexton coming off an injury yet still likely commanding a big payday in restricted free agency. Will the Cavs be willing to pay Sexton considering how well the team is rolling right now without him? In this scenario, they trade Sexton out and get another young cost-controlled wing who can solidify the team's point of attack defence and add the shooting that Okoro can't provide. Starting lineup becomes Garland-Vassell-Markkanen-Mobley-Allen, which is a young group with a high ceiling.
From the Spurs side, Sexton provides a lead scoring threat that they currently lack. Unlike the Cavs, the Spurs do have the perfect backcourt partner for Sexton: Dejounte Murray. Murray provides the defensive chops, while Sexton adds the scoring and shooting. Because Sexton is injured right now it also provides a stealth tanking opportunity for the Spurs to get a high draft pick this year, then hopefully pivot quickly once they get Sexton back next year.
