There are a few ways (as seen below) that the Heat could trade for Ja Morant. The version made here is the only one the Grizzlies would really want to do (as seen above).
"The Memphis Grizzlies are entertaining offers to potentially move two-time All-Star Ja Morant ahead of the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline, sources told ESPN. Multiple teams are pursuing Morant in trade talks, and rival executives believe the Grizzlies would prioritize draft picks and young players in return, sources said. This is the first time the Grizzlies have engaged other teams in trades for Morant, who was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 draft." -- Shams Charania
SCENARIO 1 One way that they could acquire Morant via trade is by having Terry Rozier as the main salary piece at 26.6M. They could fit some young guys like Jovic, Jaquez Jr, etc. with Rozier's salary. The Heat would have to add the most players in that scenario. Same picks or similar value ones would be included.
SCENARIO 2 (this trade) The Heat won't agree to an extension with Tyler Herro so he could be on the move at some point soon. He would be the Grizzlies' new star around Jaren Jackson Jr. They put the same young players in the deal, just less of them. Same picks or similar value ones would be included.
SCENARIO 3 The Heat could also use Andrew Wiggins' salary at around 28M to be the main piece in a deal for Ja. Wiggins is 30 years old so he really doesn't fit this Grizzlies team, but it may be more appealing than doing SCENARIO 1. The Heat would have to add the most players in that scenario. Same picks or similar value ones would be included.
SCENARIO 4 - the most realistic and my prediction The Grizzlies take either SCENARIO 1 or SCENARIO 3 with ZERO or a low amount/value of picks. This would be very similar to the Trae Young trade to the Wizards. However, more teams are interested? What changes?
Overall, the Heat lose a lot of depth and possibly draft capital for Ja Morant, who has struggled to stay healthy and has been more inefficient than ever. Ja's fit is weird on the team no matter what trade goes through. The Heat already have Norman Powell, Tyler Herro, and Davion Mitchell as the main guards. If the Heat really are desperate, then they will do something like these trades here.
