SUCCESS

The Raptors embrace the reality that a.) their team--as presently constructed--lacks the offensive upside to be a championship contender and that being the top-3ish playoff defense they would have to be to win a title is not realistic, b.) that the roster they have now will become EXTREMELY expensive if they try to keep it together within the next two seasons as the contracts for VanVleet, Trent Jr., Anunoby and Siakam expire and c.) moving on from one of their non-Scottie Barnes core players is optimized by moving on from all of them when their value is highest. Losing Siakam obviously hurts the most but he is about to be given a super-max contract (I expect an All-NBA selection this year for him) and the contracts of players of his tier who historically have received said extension have not aged well. This is a painful path but one that I see as optimizing the chances of a title run for the long-term. They would have an enormous amount of 2023 and forward cap space with the expiring contracts these trades take on allowing them to either retool quickly or trade cap space for expiring bad contracts to gain additional draft capital.

The Knicks have openly inquired and made offers for Anunoby (one that included "multiple first-round selections"). This portion of the total trade is very realistic with the Knicks still having assets to acquire their future superstar caliber player they hope to acquire in a trade. I would expect them to haggle over the unprotected 2025 first-rounder but, at the end of the day, I see this as realistic compensation for Anunoby.

The Lakers can push all-in on ending the Lebron Era with another title, gaining two players who can--at their most idealized versions--help them to space the floor in VanVleet and Trent Jr. with Boucher giving them some quality frontcourt depth.

The Grizzlies are one of the few teams I see as a really good fit for Siakam within the context of the existing team. His dominant on-ball style on offense coupled with where he tends to operate (heavy around the elbows/mid-range area) requires a very specific mix of off-ball players who can shoot ideally coupled with a great pick-and-roll operator. Memphis provides that atmosphere for him where his game can scale up or down accordingly. Defensively, he allows for Jaren Jackson Jr. to almost never be put into a match-up situation where he "has to" be a point-of-attack defender against a playmaking big (think Jokic) and can continue to excel as a weak-side help defender. The upside of this move for Memphis is a championship in 2023 with a decently long window due to the age of their new Morant-Jackson-Siakam core. They would likely have to choose between Desmond Bane and Dillon Brooks (Bane would be my pick) but they would still not be without assets to help maintain the rest of the roster around whoever their "Big Four" would be.
