For the Cavs, I actually really like this trade. They badly need a perimeter defender, and even though Strus is a good player and fits their system well, they really need someone like Herb Jones. He gives them the defense they’re missing and fits their team way better in terms of what they need.
For the Pelicans, I can see it too. They get a 2031 first-round pick that’s completely unprotected plus a second, and I could see them flipping Strus again to get even more value. Overall, I think it makes sense for both sides, but I like it a little more for the Cavs because Herb is exactly the type of player they need.
I’d also try to trade Harden in a sign-and-trade for someone who can bring more defense. I think that would make a lot of sense for the Cavs and would help balance the roster even more.
