Toronto Raptors get: Luke Kennard, Jake LaRavia, Mamadi Diakite, and 3 second round picks in 2025, 2026, and 2027

Memphis Grizzlies get: Jakob Poeltl

++Why each team does this:++

Toronto Raptors: While this wouldn't be an idle return for Poeltl considering how they traded an eventual 8th overall pick for him, getting Luke Kennard (who would either be bought out or used to help another team do a salary dump), a decent player in LaRavia who's only 23 years old, and 3 second round picks is still a good return for Poeltl.

Memphis Grizzlies: While the Grizzlies just drafted Edey, who I think will be a pretty good player in the NBA, not only was he a big reach at 9, but I also think that he is not a good fit alongside Jackson Jr because while Jackson Jr can shoot 3s alongside Edey, they both need a good on and/or off ball defensive Forward/Center alongside them to cover their weaknesses defensively. And since neither of them can provide any on or off ball defense (steals and blocks are a third category of defense), this could be a big issue for the Grizzlies. So getting Poeltl means getting a good off ball defender that can cover Jackson Jr and also rebounds, scores, and blocks at Edey's level. LaRavia is decent and young, but I don't think he's getting minutes behind (GG) Jackson, Clarke, or Aldama. Kennard is also not really that valuable given his bad defense and his contract. They probably only gave him 11 million so that they could trade his contract for a player with a big contract without trading any of their more valuable players.
