Sacramento needs help. They are in financial purgatory, have no intriguing young assets, and quite frankly are a struggling franchise all around. How can they make their way back to relevancy? They will likely need to trade all their vets for as many picks and expiring contracts they can to try and rebuild as quickly as possible. Here they land a future 1st, two 2nds, and an intriguing young player in Bilal Coulibaly. But the real win is adding an expiring contract for Sabonis so they can avoid the tax next year.
The Wizards are in an interesting position. They now have Trae Young and a few really interesting pieces. They will likely have another lottery pick no matter what but they could turn into an interesting playoff team for next season by adding a really solid big man in Sabonis to go along with Trae Young and their core. They could use Middleton’s expiring $30M contract and bring in another former all star to try and boost their young talent to get to a playoff caliber team. The Wizards could have a rotation that looks like:
Trae Young, Tre Johnson, Kyshawn George, Domantas Sabonis, Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington, a top 10 draft pick, Will Reilly, Justin Champagnie, Jamir Watkins, and Cam Whitmore. That’s the start of something really really interesting in Washington.
