Why the Blazers do this: Grant is the second oldest player on the roster, and does not fit the rebuild timeline. This gets the Clippers an unprotected first that should be in the lottery, along with three seconds to use as bargaining chips in future trades.

Both Morris and Roco only have a year left on their deals, so if the Blazers are smart, they can just carry that cap flexibility going forward by singing more one/two year deals with pieces that fit their rebuild core while they wait for the next disgruntled star to ask out, let’s say in 2026 or 2027.

Why the Clippers do it: Grant is a clear upgrade over all of their power forward depth. This season is definitely Championship or bust for the Clippers, and this is their weakest position.
