Worth clarifying, this trade, while yes an attempt at realism, package wise, is just me doing the opposite of what'd ever happen in reality (Steph, Klay, or Dray being traded).
This is gonna be a trek, so bear with me. Agree or disagree, if anyone actually reads this and gives it the time of day, I appreciate that lol.
The Warriors are obviously in no mans land right now as a team and with the complications of potentially breaking up the core 3 or not gaining enough in return by dropping our best young assets, I feel as if this team is destined for mediocrity until Steph retires. So, as a delusional fan, I decided to end the Steph Curry era myself. I've workshopped tons of trades to bolster him and the core 3 in the past, but never really have explored a legitimate rebuild. It was honestly tough, took like 2-3 hours to get this all sorted out and have be at least in my opinion, relatively realistic. So, with that said, allow me to explain why each team does this trade and benefits:
Warriors: After a near decade of dominance, the Warriors opt to rebuild their roster from essentially the ground up. Rebuilds are tricky though, and many times require contract dumps and future trades before completion is achieved. Those contract dumps being Clint Capela, DeAndre Hunter, Marcus Morris Sr, Nic Batum, and Davis Bertans. The future trade asset would be Dejounte Murray, unfortunately I could only do 5 teams, but if I could do more, he'd be flipped to the Magic for Jonathan Isaac, an ORL 2024 FRP, and an ORL 2024 SRP. Now for the new core and some bench pieces that will usher in a new era for the Warriors:
PG: Tyrese Maxey SG: Jalen Williams SF: Jalen Johnson PF: Lauri Markkanen C: Walker Kessler 6M: Brandin Podziemski 7: DeAndre Hunter 8: Jonathan Isaac 9: KJ Martin 10: Clint Capela
76ers: Joel Embiid has been arguably the best player in basketball for the past 3-4 years, and at non-durable 29 years old, the window of opportunity to win with him is likely smaller than we think. That said, what better way to get him over the hump, than by adding a top 10 player ever whose still in his prime? And the cherry on top? Embiid gets one of the NBA's most prolific sharpshooters that now has 2 unstoppable forces of gravity to maneuver around and get open looks. They also get a solid role player in THT who'll have more continuity in duties than he had in LA or Utah. The best part of all this for Philly however, aside from likely cake walking into a potential 2-3 run, is that they'll have offloaded much of their unwanted salary and floor spacing issues. PLUS, if Klay opts not to re-sign in FA, there's plenty of room to add in some quality pieces around Steph and Embiid.
PG: Steph Curry SG: Klay Thompson SF: Kelly Oubre Jr PF: (buyout market) C: Joel Embiid 6M: DeAnthony Melton
Thunder: Just as I said regarding Embiid and the Sixers, I feel the same way about the Thunder. Championship windows never last as long as we expect and sometimes we think there are greener pastures when there aren't. Hence, my opinion that OKC would be wise to capitalize on Shai's greatness as quickly as they because you never know what the future holds. To make that OKC push, they'll have to upgrade their defense, veteran/playoff experience, and bench depth. Who other to bring the first 2, than arguably a top 3 defender of the past decade in Draymond Green. Say what you want about his status amongst OKC's fans, or his temper, the guy can flat out solo carry a defense. The amount of things opposing fans miss with Draymond is a list that could be a post in and of itself. Nonetheless, he skyrockets their defense while bringing in the championship pedigree it takes to win at all costs. On top of that, bringing in RoCo and Danuel House gives OKC some much needed bench improvements that also add more playoff experience to the mix. I also think they can still flip Giddey and picks to regain some shot creation from losing JDub, or start Isaiah Joe/Cason Wallace over him.
PG: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander SG: Josh Giddey SF: Lu Dort PF: Draymond Green C: Chet Holmgren
Hawks: The Hawks are in a very awkward situation because Trae is still someone they CAN build around, but they HAVE to offload these contracts they've idiotically gotten themselves into. Atlanta can't afford to rebuild, so retooling and playing the FA market (FOR AN OFFBALL SECOND OPTION, NOT ANOTHER BALL DOMINANT GUARD), is the move. That being said, to supplement the loss of DJ, Toby gets the title of #2 as a nice little trial run, as he'll be a FA after the season. If the fit were to be there, Atlanta can re-sign him and there ya go, your PF. Wiggins is still a decent 3rd option, the nice thing is the contract which is quite team friendly all things considered. Still an overpay, but at least it's on a 6'8 3&D/Hybrid offensive wing who clamped Luka and Tatum in the playoffs not 2 years ago. In my opinion, Wigs needs a change of scenery with less spotlight and pressure. Atlanta is that. To further bolster the defense, they get GP2, one of the best on ball defenders in the league, as well as being one of the better off ball offensive players in the league. Olynyk is a great popper for Trae, and Loon is a solid backup that can provide most of what Capela did on the glass but for far cheaper, just minus the athleticism. Korkmaz for spacing and a 2026 FRP
PG: Trae Young SG: Bogdan Bogdanovic SF: Andrew Wiggins PF: Tobias Harris C: Onyeka Okongwu
Jazz: The Jazz are obviously rebuilding right now, and everyone wants in at trying to nab Lauri Markannen. In a trade with the Warriors, the Jazz would net Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, Trayce Jackson-Davis, Gui Santos, and Chris Paul as a player to flip at the following deadline. Kuminga has shown flashes of the potential dominance he can provide a team, he just needs the minutes, and in my opinion, similar to Wiggins, I think its time for him and Moses to get a fresh change of scenery to enter into. Utah in general lands on a buttload of prospects and picks, as well as the trade of Jordan Clarkson which again, had to do separately. The trade being with the Pistons for Jaden Ivey as well as James Wiseman for salary. A potential lineup for the newly formed Jazz could be:
PG: Keyonte George SG: Jaden Ivey SF: Jonathan Kuminga PF: Taylor Hendricks C: Trayce Jackson-Davis
