This trade was made using the quadratic formula

For reference here is the quadratic formula: 𝑥=(−𝑏±√𝑏^2−4𝑎𝑐)/2a

Also, I always use the most applicable x value given by the formula.

Determining Teams: All 30 NBA teams were ranked based on their regular season record last year, numbers 1-30. I then used a random number generator with a range from -1000 to 1000, I ran it 3 times to get a(151), b(784), and c(-872). The first x value was -6.13357, we can round that to -6. The absolute value of -6 can be written as |-6|, which gives us 6, meaning the trade will involve the 6th best team in the NBA, a point differential tiebreaker leads us to use the New York Knicks. The second set was a(206), b(-249), and c(441). The x value resulted in 0.604369 - 1.33248i, the i means imaginary, meaning the (-) 1.33248 is an imaginary value. To remove the imaginary value, we multiply our x value by its Complex Conjugate, so we multiply (0.604369 - 1.33248i) by (0.604369 + 1.33248i). The value we get would be about 2.1407, rounded to 2 we would take the 2nd seed in the NBA, the Spurs.

Now we have our 2 teams, the Knicks and Spurs.

Determining Players: Every player on each team will be sorted by their minutes per game. The same method will be used to determine A. The number of players and B. Which players will be traded. For the number of players the Knicks will be trading, the values are a(849), b(209), and c(-650); the value is -1.00669, with rounding and absolute value, the Knicks will trade only 1 player. The Spurs values are a(23), b(71), and c(193); the value is -1.54348 - 2.45132i, when we multiply it by it’s Complex Conjugate, we get 8.39130, or, after rounding, 8, meaning the Spurs will trade 8 players. With the values of a(433), b(760), and c(-800), we get an x value of -2.4955, which after we round and use absolute value, we get 2, meaning the Knicks will trade OG Anunoby, as he played their 2nd most MPG. I’ll just let y’all know the results for the Spurs players(I have to do this 8 more times 😭🙏). The players are De’Aaron Fox, Devin Vassell, Luke Kornet, Kelly Olynyk, Stephon Castle, Keldon Johnson, Victor Wembanyama, and Julian Champagnie.

Determining Picks: For each team I will determine whether or not they will give up picks at all. If the x value contains an imaginary number, that team will not give any picks, whereas if the x value is a real number, that team will give picks. The Knicks have a value of 0.0954774 - -0.846767i, meaning they will give no picks. The Spurs have a value of -0.253461, meaning they will give picks. Same method as earlier for number of picks. The Spurs will be giving the Knicks 9 picks(holy unbalanced). For the sake of my sanity one would think I’d just pick random picks, but no, I will use the quadratic formula to determine all 9, which will be numbered according to their position listed on Fanspo. Spurs trade: 2029 2nd(NOP), 2027 1st(ATL), 2027 2nd(OKC, HOU, IND, or MIA Swap Rights), 2028 2nd(SAS), 2029 1st(SAS), 2028 2nd(NOP), 2028 1st(BOS Swap Rights), 2032 1st(SAS), and 2030 2nd(CLE).
