Welcome back to the Joel Embiid trade series from kawntent sports. In this one, Joel Embiid ends up with the Warriors who acquire a second superstar, and the Knicks swoop in for Andrew Wiggins. I'm surprised how little noise we're hearing for the Warriors acquiring other stars besides Paul George, so this trade is an attempt to change that narrative.
Why the Warriors do this:
Last time Steph Curry had a superstar teammate, it was Kevin Durant and they never lost a championship when they were healthy. Here, Joel Embiid comes in as that secondary superstar to lead the team into the future. The Warriors end up with a superstar starting five better than they've ever had: Curry, Chris Paul, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Embiid. This results in an absolutely unstoppable juggernaut that will smoke every team in its way, including the Clippers if they acquire Harden, the superteam Suns, and the predicted dynasty Nuggets, for the next few seasons.
Why the 76ers do this:
The Sixers acquire a young player with MVP-level potential and a solid chance at reaching it in Jonathan Kuminga, a temporary center with championship experience in Kevon Looney, a former top-3 pick in RJ Barrett, and another guard with potential in Moses Moody, along with all the picks the Warriors have to offer along with a few from the Knicks. This sets up a group built around Maxey/Moody/Barrett/Kuminga/Looney with a bench of Tobias Harris (likely to be flipped) and De'Anthony Melton, along with some other current Sixers role players. This sets up a brand new core and one that will be extremely solid and have the pick arsenal to compete in the future.
Why the Knicks do this:
The Knicks swoop in and acquire Andrew Wiggins from a rebuilding Sixers team that won't really want him. He brings championship experience to this young team with the goal of being solid, and they only have to give up RJ Barrett who does not seem to be a part of their long-term plans and they give up a couple first round picks that won't be too valuable with how good this team should be.
Let me know your thoughts on this deal in the comments! The Warriors would be unstoppable after this. Should the league veto it? Curious to hear your opinions.
