Phoenix’s moves all put together:

Phoenix gives up -

(8 Players) Booker, Durant, Beal, Plumlee, Jones, O’Neale, Morris, Bol

(0 picks)

Phoenix receives -

(10 Players + 4 cut) Sheppard, Whitmore, Kuminga, Pods, Duren, Tate, Sasser, Brown, Hardaway, Harris

(4 Cut) Looney, GPII, Adams, Jeff Green

(6 1st Rd Picks) 2025 PHX 1st(swap), 2026 GSW 1st, 2026 IND 1st, 2027 PHX 1st, 2028 GSW 1st, 2029 HOU 1st

NOTES: The order of acquisitions/cuts: Phoenix (1) cuts Damion Lee, (2) trades with GSW, (3) cuts Looney & GPII, (4) trades with Houston, (5) cuts Adams & Jeff Green, (6) trades with Detroit.

Phoenix ends up with a couple of its own picks back, allowing them to reap some benefits from rebuilding and tanking for the next 3-4 years. They add four additional picks, some with real potential (2028 GSW especially).

Their roster ends up with these 15 players:

Prospects: Dunn, Sheppard, Whitmore, Kuminga, Pods, Duren, Tate, Sasser, Oso

Vets: Nurkic, Allen, Okogie, Brown, Hardaway, Harris

Their books would be fairly tidy, and they could potentially make more deals. For example, they could look to flip Brown, Hardaway, and maybe even Allen and Okogie for additional assets, maybe taking back worse salary. Next year, Nurkic and Harris become expiring salaries. The biggest question is re-signing Kuminga. They may be able to sign him to a Jalen Green type of deal to give them a couple more years to test the waters.

If you’re up for some further chicanery, the very first move could be Allen, Oso, and Damion Lee to Denver for Zeke Nnaji, Dario Saric, and Julian Strawther. Saric becomes an expiring next year, Strawther becomes another prospect for Phoenix to check out, and Nnaji will be a reclamation project, if not just bad salary for a few years.

After the remaining moves, Phoenix could then trade Brown, Hardaway, and Sasser to Memphis for Smart, Kennard, and Konchar (split into two simultaneous deals), cutting Kennard. Smart brings some energy, some inspiration, some veteran leadership and mentoring. He’d be a great locker room guy for a young team that just endured a massive roster transformation. Konchar’s deal is the cost of getting Smart, if you want to think about it like that.

So the roster becomes:

Smart - Dunn - Harris - Kuminga - Duren

Bench: Sheppard, Whitmore, Pods, Strawther, Tate, Nurkic, Okogie, Nnaji, Saric, Konchar

I think the mix of prospects and veterans is well-balanced for achieving two goals: (1) give the prospects a reasonably positive environment in which to develop, and (2) lose a ton of games.

With these prospects and the additional picks to look forward to, I’d be relieved - if not satisfied - as a Suns fan. I’d feel like we took a big swing, failed epically, then averted disaster, instead settling into a promising rebuild with interesting prospects and a decent cache of picks.
