I think this makes even more sense for the Knicks because their need at center is bigger right now. After losing Mitchell Robinson, they need another center in the rotation, while McBride is a player they don’t really plan on re-signing anyway. So turning him into a young, cheap center like Kalkbrenner is a pretty logical move for them.
For Charlotte, it’s definitely harder to give up Kalkbrenner, but McBride is the better player overall and they can actually re-sign him, unlike the Knicks. So I can see both sides, but I think New York has more reason to do it.
