PORTLAND: Relieve cap space, bring back Jusuf on an expiring contract, get more youth. Get rid of a bad Grant contract.
UTAH: They're tanking and getting expiring contracts will help them relieve cap space later on and get a good draft pick.
DETROIT: Get a slight bit of a downgrade at PF, but Walker Kessler is a great center behind Jalen Duren and you could try and play the starting 5 with Kessler at the 4/5.
QUESTIONS:
Why does Utah trade away Kessler?
Kessler will want a big payday after his contract expires next year, so getting him off their chest now will help them become a more tanking team. Lauris contract wont go away for 4 more years unless a rare trade happens even though I doubt it will.
Why would the Jazz want Tobias Harris?
Harris is a major contract, but adding him on would relieve stress in the long term, as his contract expires at the end of the year. It would help Utah become a more tanking team again.
Would the Kessler and Duren backcourt really work?
I think it would take time obviously, but we've seen phenomenal double big lineups.
Ralph Sampson, Hakeem Olajuwon
Tim Duncan, David Robinson
Just to name a couple. Now I am no way saying that Duren and Kessler is at the level of those two, but I'm just trying to point out this would work.
