Seen some Ja Morant trades flying around recently, and for good reason (suspension, bad relationship with the FO) so I decided to join the trend in a way I haven’t seen yet. Why not Boston?
Why the Grizzlies do this:
Payton Pritchard is a good stopgap PG after trading Ja, and he comes in this deal alongside Anfernee Simons (as a bit of a Bane replacement), a very solid role player in Sam Hauser, and an unprotected first from an unpredictable Celtics team. Considering Morant’s lack of a trade market, this may be a competitive offer.
Why the Celtics do this:
Buying low on Ja could make for a nearly-unbeatable 2027 Celtics team. Combining Morant with Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum makes the Celtics a certifiable super team unlike anything we have seen in recent years apart from possibly the Thunder. If they can mesh and stay healthy, this team is all but guaranteed another trip to the Finals.
What do you think of this deal? Who accepts, who passes, and why? Let me know your thoughts in the comments, I look forward to the discussion there.
