OKC:
You may ask, why may OKC do this trade? They are on their way to beating the regular season record of 73-9. But, here's my reasoning. Isaiah Hartenstein is a free agent in the summer of 2027, and he is probably looking for money; he knows he had won a championship and was a key piece to a dynasty like the Thunder. They have to pay many other guys like Cason Wallace, Dort, even Ajay Mitchell if he continues to play well. By swapping Isaiah Hartenstein for Ivica Zubac, you get many things with this. First of all, Zubac is undoubtably the better player than Hartenstein. Will he fit with the Thunder as much as Hartenstein has? Probably not, but Zubac makes consistent impact every game he plays. He is more durable than IHart, his contract is one year longer and is making 10 million dollars less each year that Hart. That difference may not seem significant at first glance, but financially, it gives OKC an entire extra year of flexibility to extend key young pieces, absorb future contracts, or stay aggressive in the trade market and NBA draft without compromising long-term stability.
Clippers:
They are desperate for any sort of picks. They move Zubac for a guaranteed lottery pick in this years draft and a pick next year. They still maintained having a Center in IHart as well. Hartenstein is also good value in which they can trade for more value. While their season is a nightmare, they are able to obtain a lottery pick before trading Harden or Kawhi. They also free up more roster spots so young players can sign at minimums to prove themselves. Yanic may be gone but in return they have a top 10 pick in this draft and a pick the following year.
Wizards:
By trading seconds, they get a veteran like Derrick Jones Jr and an interesting young piece in Yanic. The vision here is that Yanic becomes like a backup center to Sarr and DJJ is a good player for them as they need more athletic defensive forwards.
