DAL

Dallas acquires Jrue Holiday from the Pelicans for Tim Hardaway Jr., Dwight Powell, Jalen Brunson, and the 18th and 31st picks in the 2020 NBA Draft. Holiday is the perfect defensive guard to pair with Luka Doncic. Furthermore, either Luka Doncic, Delon Wright, or Seth Curry can play SG in Dallas, to make up for the loss of Tim Hardaway Jr. Even though they lose Brunson, the Mavericks can also utilize either Wright or Curry to backup Holiday, or sign a cheap backup PG in free agency on a one-year deal. In any case, with Dallas looking to be aggressive in forming a big 3, Holiday does just that and his defense is necessary in Dallas.

New Orleans receives Tim Hardaway Jr as their starting shooting guard, Dwight Powell as a starting-caliber center who can occasionally hit threes (even though he is a career 29% shooter from there), as well as a young backup PG whom they can develop behind Lonzo Ball in Jalen Brunson. Even if they are upset at losing Holiday, the Pelicans should be pleased with this return because Hardaway Jr would help New Orleans tremendously and Dwight Powell would as well. Brunson is a youngster they need at PG, as insurance if Lonzo does not work out. This should assist New Orleans even more, because they get the 18th and 31st picks in the draft, to complete their rebuild and get more youngsters on this rising youthful Pelicans squad.

Dallas gets their third star and a defensive guard they seek next to Luka, whereas the Pelicans get players who fit with them like Powell and Hardaway Jr., in addition to young assets like Jalen Brunson, #18, and #31. This should help them rebuild. Powell and Hardaway Jr. fit great in New Orleans as well.

Is this a good trade?
