Trade Breakdown

PHX: Julius Randle

NYK: Landry Shamet, Torrey Craig, Dario Saric, & 2024 Top 5 Protected 1st

Why? : The Suns are one piece away from being a legit title contender once again, at least in my opinion. I don’t believe they have the roster currently to return to the finals, as the western conference has now gotten much tougher with Golden State returning to form, the Clippers & Nuggets both being healthy, & teams like Memphis, Minnesota, New Orleans, & Dallas all in the rise. Now acquiring Kevin Durant would be the best case scenario for Phoenix, but that unfortunately means moving on from Mikal Bridges, Deandre Ayton, & a boatload of picks, which Brooklyn has already declined.

A trade though where the Suns land an All-Star caliber player & at the same time keep both Bridges & Ayton makes a ton of sense. Enter Julius Randle, a do it all power forward. Lots of people, including myself, have already gone sour on Randle, but I do feel that on a team with CP3 & under the coaching of Monty Williams, we can see the best out of him once again. Chris Paul makes everyone better around him, & that’s why I believe Julius Randle would be a solid fit in Phoenix. He helped Booker take the next step in his game & Ayton receive a max contract. With Paul though heading towards his age 36 season, the Suns need another guy who can be a secondary playmaker & lead the team when CP3 is out with a injury or resting up his body, & Julius fits the bill. Randle would have a great amount of talent around him to potentially become an All-Star again. He’s got Devin Booker, the best shooting guard in the league, along with one of the premier 3 & D players in Mikal Bridges & an above average typical modern day center in Deandre Ayton. Then he also has a nice bench to work with as well consisting of Cameron Payne, Damion Lee, Jae Crowder, Cam Johnson, & Bismack Biyombo.

All in all, I believe this is a move in which Phoenix puts themselves in a better position to compete for an NBA title once again. They get to keep two important pieces in Mikal Bridges & Deandre Ayton, both of who helped the Suns reach the finals a couple of years ago. Yes, Julius Randle isn’t Kevin Durant, but it wasn’t that long ago where he was playing at a high level & lead the Knicks back into the postseason for the first time in 7 seasons.
