Five Way Chaos Trade

FAILED

Let's go in order of magnitude.

Cavs: Since their core four was formed, people have been skeptical of the Garland-Mitchell backcourt and the Mobley-Allen frontcourt. Here (assuming things go south) they split up both AND get out of the second apron. Starting with the frontcourt, Markkanen has developed into a star since leaving Cleveland. He is an elite play finisher at all three levels and one of the most versatile scorers in the league. Defensively, he has the size to slide up to the five and speed to slide down to the three, which would unlock Mobley to be used wherever he would be most effective on a given night. He would be a perfect fit next to Mobley and Mitchell, and Atkinson would be a kid in a candy store scripting up actions for Lauri. In the backcourt, Coby White may be a talent downgrade from Garland, but he's a lower usage offensive player with more size and athleticism. The Hunter & Merrill for Ayo swap is purely financial, but Ayo is a good point of attack defender off the bench. Overall, a starting five of Mitchell White Strus Markkanen and Mobley is a more versatile unit with less glaring weaknesses for contenders to exploit. If they need to pivot, this is a good one.

Pistons: The Pistons showed last year that they aren't terribly far from contention; this is them putting their chips all in. With their defensive infrastructure, Detroit proved it could withstand high minutes playing defensive liabilities in THJ and Beasley. Thus, the negatives of bringing in a guy like Garland are far overshadowed by the positives he can bring. Garland is a great scorer and playmaker who can take some of the handling load off of Cade's shoulders. His shooting and off-ball movement allows him to function next to a star creator in Cade. Garland would also immediately stabilize the non-Cade minutes. A Cade Garland Ausar Harris Duren closing lineup has the talent and two way pop to make some real noise in the Eastern conference. Also, Merrill is a cheaper younger shooter than Robinson at half the price. Ivey LeVert and three firsts is a hefty price to pay, but Garland is an absolute stud who can help bring Detroit to the promise land.

Bulls: Chicago here, for all intents and purposes, would be trading Coby White and a first (Portland lottery protected, good chance it conveys as seconds) for Jarrett Allen. The theory here is simple. Chicago doesn't have it's center of the future, and Jarrett Allen is both young and very good. As good as White is, he is a bit duplicative on this roster and is owed an extension this summer. Allen would be a better long term fit with Giddey and Buzelis.

Jazz: Three firsts, Jaden Ivey, and the Hunter & Robinson contracts is a more than fair return for Lauri Markkanen, especially considering they waited far too long to move off of him.

Nets: Nets take on salary, get a draft pick.
