Why the Warriors do it? I’m sure they could probably get two second-round picks for each of Chris Paul and Dario Saric, however, they would likely have to take on bad salaries or equal salaries to do that. Here, they cut down their salary down by approximately $9.6 million for this season, saving them about $60 million from their luxury tax bill. Tre Mann is also still young enough and has shown flashes of being a solid scorer throughout his first three seasons. The Thunder simply don’t have the minutes available for him in their rotation.

Why the Thunder do it? They get themselves a couple of veterans and former Thunder players who could really help them during the playoffs. Paul could replace Micic’s minutes as the back-up point guard (when not injured) and Saric has been doing a little bit of eveything really well this season and would be an awesome piece for the Thunder off the bench. Another benefit to this trade would be the fact that Paul has a high-priced non-guaranteed salary for next season, so the team would have the choice of using that contract early in the offseason if a good opportunity came around or simple release him.
