trade notes: 2025 Warriors first round pick is lottery protected
Warriors -
after the Dennis Schroder trade, it’s clear the Warriors are serious about improving this roster. until they finally decide to give up on Kuminga, their upgrades are going to be limited. Vucevic is having a great season and should be relatively cheap. Warriors give up 3 bench players in Looney, Payton II, and Kyle Anderson (who’s currently out of the rotation!) as well as a lottery protected 2025 first round pick. Vucevic would be a phenomal fit alongside subpar shooters such as Kuminga and Draymond Green due to his ability to stretch the floor. the Warriors also pickup Torrey Craig who could be genuinely useful as a 3 and D forward, replacing the minutes left by Payton II and Kyle Anderson. Horton-Tucker is just a throw in here, maybe the Warriors can find use for him. Warriors essentially move back in the draft as they’re acquiring a 2025 second round pick via Sacramento.
Bulls -
it’s clear the Vucevic era in Chicago is over. the initial price tag the Bulls placed on Vucevic was “2nd round picks”, but with the season he’s having he could go for slightly more. obviously the jewel of this trade is the Warriors 2025 first round pick (lottery protected).. but they also receive some expiring salary in the form of Payton II and Looney. they could potentially even flip either of these two (more likely Looney) for additional assets. Kyle Anderson is on a multi-year deal but is a very solid role player on a very affordable contract, the Bulls should easily be able to flip him at the deadline or in the summer for additional assets. giving up Craig or Horton-Tucker shouldn’t matter much, as well as the 2025 Sacramento 2nd considering they’re acquiring a 1st.
