Pistons get DiVincenzo + 2 picks to add a starter and draft assets, Wolves get Ivey to add a scorer and ball-handler.

Why would each team do this?

Pistons: While Detroit doesn’t necessarily need to trade Ivey, they might consider it if the right offer appears. Donte DiVincenzo provides an immediate upgrade as a starter—he’s more dynamic and versatile than Duncan Robinson, capable of creating for himself and others while giving strong perimeter defense. Adding DiVincenzo also gives the Pistons more proven talent in the short term, while the extra draft picks (even second-rounders) give them flexibility for future moves. In some scenarios, they could even push for a first-round pick depending on market interest, but DiVincenzo’s value makes this trade relatively even in the Pistons’ eyes.

Timberwolves: For Minnesota, the cost is reasonable to acquire a former top-five pick in Ivey, who hasn’t fully reached his potential but still has plenty of upside. Ivey brings All-Star-level talent if he can fully unlock his game, and joining the Timberwolves gives him a chance to be a primary ball-handler again, which is where he has shown his best performance in Detroit. The Wolves gain a young scoring wing who could develop into a cornerstone alongside their core, all without sacrificing long-term flexibility.
