This trade was a pain to make work but I think all teams benefit from it.
Boston gets under the second apron while getting a successor to Jrue, a startable center, and moving up into the middle of the first round.
Cleveland moves on from Garland and Allen in favor of a less ball-dominant point guard and an incredibly valuable shooter, allowing them to give Mitchell more on-ball responsibility and move Mobley to his natural position. They also gain a first this year and an incredibly valuable Lakers future pick they could use to get a star.
Orlando fills their need for shooting, ball handling, a true starting caliber center, plus rid of KCP’s contract, while only giving up Suggs, Carter, Isaac, and moving down in the first round.
Brooklyn gets a bunch of solid players they could eventually flip for future picks or keep around as mentors, while moving on from talented players that don’t fit their timeline and only giving up one of their first rounders this year.
LA gives up two bad contracts, Austin Reaves, Dalton Knecht, and their only tradable first rounder to get a fantastic center to pair with Luka, plus an elite defender in Isaac and a great shooter in Strus to add more talent to their rotation.
I’m bad at judging the value of picks so you can rearrange them in your mind however you like, but I think this framework is a good concept for all teams to consider.
