The Kings are looking to trade Malik Monk (and pretty much everyone else) so they trade him and Devin Carter to the Celtics for Anfernee Simons' expiring contract.
I already did a Simons trade to the Kings so the reasoning stands. Simons can increase his value for free agency in the off-season after his struggles in Boston.
Monk replaces Simons' as the 6th man because it is a more natural fit and less expensive (but a longer contract). Carter might get a chance to prove himself as an NBA point guard with Boston before Tatum returns. If that doesn't happen, Carter is in for salary purposes.
The Celtics still cut money to become a 1st apron team.
