Lakers need a big who can protect the rim and execute drop coverage at a high level, set good screens, and catch lobs from Luka and LBJ, and Kessler is exactly that.
In addition, they should use their MLE to sign NAW who is their KCP/Caruso replacement in terms of a strong POA defender who is excellent at getting skinny when navigating over the top of screens both on and off the ball and hounding elite scoring guards in isolation, who also happens to hit timely 3s and has a high motor and effort.
With this, LA has star power and primary shot creation(Luka and LBJ), an interior presence who's their rim protector and defensive anchor, in addition to being a solid rim runner in Kessler. 3&D players who can shoot 38% + from 3, and slow down wings and make the right rotations and switch onto most guys or hound opposing guards around screens and in isolation in DFS and NAW respectively. To top it off, they have a great 6th man who can lead 2nd units and provide an offensive spark off the bench in AR. Plus hustle guys who do the dirty work like Vando, a solid role player who can score in the midrange and provide decent defensive versatility in Rui.
This LA team can give OKC a run for it's money. With a lineup looking like this, the Lakers could be dangerous:
