This trade is just for fun, however let me explain why this would be a nice idea
My hate for Phoenix grows ever stronger, so here's too much detail on why this is better
The Milwaukee Bucks have somehow escaped the NBA equivalent of purgatory, that being uncomfortable mediocrity. However they don't have long until they slip back into uncertainty and for them to capitalise on their small championship window, they have to increase the margins by being aggressive buyers. Before talking about Jimmy Buckets and BBall Paul coming to Wisconsin, I want to cover the 5 players they lose on top of a potentially very valuable 2031 first.
Bobby Portis will feel like the biggest loss, however Milwaukee have a plethora of available 4 men. One of which that I want to highlight is rookie Tyler Smith. He looks to me as a basic version of Bobby Portis and without the insanity that 3 and a half years in Chicago does to a person. They obviously also add Paul Reed, who last season broke through as a second string centre, coming in for a seemingly always unavailable Joel Embiid and doing well. This season his minutes are back down but I'd expect him to keep up to the standard saw last year if given even 15 mins a night. Bobby Portis can give the Heat a nice big man core of Bam, Kel'el Ware and himself which will allow them to have more freedom amongst the paint and restricted area defensively, while also giving them many mismatches on the offense, something that may become crucial given the missing creation even a decent Jimmy Butler could bring.
Gary Trent Jr seems like a big loss on paper, however is definitely an upgrade on Jason Richardson for the Heat and is also played himself back into being the Buck's best trade asset outside of their core. His play has been shadowed by the ever promising Andre Jackson Jr who has offered the Milwaukee a young, defensive minded 2-guard who is highly athletic to slide next to Dame thus giving them a nice balance from their guard spots. I really think he can be their Christian Braun, especially if we stat seeing the 3 ball go in. Marjon Beauchamp is also an option but I don't think his NBA career is ever going to take off (I sure hope it does though). Going further in onto Gary Trent Jr, he can give the Heat some nice production simply from catch and shoot opportunities and thus encouraging more playmaking from within the post by Bam or even Kel'el.
Pat Connaughton would be a good contract for them to move on from as he's having aa 29% from 3 type of season, a sharp decline from the 34% he's shot for the last 2 years. Infact his shot has not been falling as much and his contract looks worse now as the Bucks find themselves in the second apron. AJ Green and Alec Burks are already better and would have more impact as they offer better ball handling, playmaking, shot creation/making and defence between them than Pat Connaughton has, thus strengthening the Bucks second unit further, even if not by much. The Pistons won't be looking at any marque signings in free agency as the next two classes are very top heavy and not deep, that and both Tobias Harris and Tim Hardaway Jr having similar lengths to their contacts show that the Pistons will be fine taking on Connaughton's deal providing he brings at least some positive floor spacing.
AJ Johnson may be controversial, to some, to trade away. The Pistons add AJ Johnson for a 2nd and the Connaughton contract to serve as another primary ball handler as Jaden Ivey is injured and that has resulted in Cade producing plenty turnovers. Ball handling is one AJ's biggest strengths and has potential to be a nice secondary creator next to Cade and with Ivey. Yes it's strange the Bucks are giving away AJ so early but if they want to get the most out the Dame and Giannis's championship window they got to make bold moves.
Another bold and controversial move for the Bucks is trading away Khash Money Khris Middleton yet it seems to be the right move for the Bucks, as they can flip him for a better player i.e Jimmy Butler, and Khris himself, as he won't damage the reputation he has in Milwaukee by simply declining as a player. Khris has been a poor defender and a 3rd option who's shot has fallen at varying rates over the last 3 years. His contract alone can be the centrepiece of a trade which would improve the Bucks largely and his play is both replaceable and could be massively better (not just talking box scores). Unfortunately for both parties it's time to move on similarly to them moving on from Jrue.
Adding Jimmy would make them arguably the best team within the East, and if not so during the regular season then their skill & experience, hunger and drive should be enough t make them favourites to win the East when it comes playoff time. Butler is not the ideal floor spacer which would have been an issue in recent years however looking at their roster possessing good floor spacers alongside Giannis's development from the mid-range and obviously Dame mf Dolla, their spacing wouldn't look ugly nor would their offensive game slow down or become clunky. Jimmy Butler would be a nice fit as another on ball creator and defender which therefore means he'll contribute nicely to the Bucks even if he's not getting the shots to fall or even up in the first place.
BBall Paul would, as I've already mentioned briefly, be a nice back up big; even better if Tyler Smith really got the game time he needs to show his outstanding skill as he's very much aight at everything you need for a floor stretching 4man in the NBA. Alec Burks add that scoring the Bucks could potentially miss from their bench.
The 2031 first is what Miami would be looking most forward to receiving in this trade as if Jimmy doesn't help the Bucks win a title, then we could be looking at a very down bad roster. However this is exactly the risk any front office have to make to try and have more success with their best ever player (looking at Golden state bru).
