The Jazz could look to move up in the draft to grab local Utah player AJ Dybantsa with the first overall pick. They could include Ace Bailey, who plays the same position as Dybantsa and wanted to end up in Washington last year, to sweeten the deal. In return they could also get recent lottery pick Tre Johnson to a position of need at SG. Overall they would be cashing in with the Lakers pick in 2027 to swap Peterson and Bailey with Dybantsa and Johnson, the pair that better fit their roster moving forward to hopefully win a championship. It may be a 120 on the dollar trade for the Jazz, but with their strong asset pool and an opportunity to get a potentially generational talent groomed to join your team, it may be too good of an opportunity to pass on.

From the Wizards POV this trade is an opportunity to move down 1 spot and grab some better assets. Dybantsa didn’t seem thrilled to potentially end up in Washington, while Peterson may not be as fussed and could end up being the better player long term. However, drafting Peterson could be a missed opportunity to improve their asset pool, without a trade made first, this selection could result in a clogged guard rotation moving forward. Peterson would join recently acquired Trae Young, along side Tre Johnson, Kyshawn George and Bub Carrington in the Wizards backcourt for 2027. In this trade if the Wizards were willing to part with one of these players, i’ve selected Johnson in this case due to his potential fit in Utah, they could eliminate this log jam somewhat and free up minutes for Peterson. At the same time they would have the opportunity to nab Bailey who is likely to be a better player long term compared to Johnson. He is someone who wants to be in Washington and would fit nicely into the Wizards front court mix for the future. Swapping those pairs of recent draft picks might not be enough to convince the Wizards to trade a sure thing in Dybantsa but an extra Lakers pick in 2027 that could end up in the lottery should sweeten the deal enough for the Wizards where it would be hard for them to lose this trade.
