I'm not sure If I would do this if I was wether LAL or Brooklyn. Let's see the arguments for these moves because, although it seems like a crazy thing, I think it makes some sense.

/// BROOKLYN PART.

As I see it, Brooklyn is still capable of attracting some superstar in FA the next years whenever they become available -ejem, Jokic, ejem, Embiid-, specially with Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson in the roster, but there's this big impediment: Ben Simmons is goofy ass contract, the worst in the league for a player who doesn't average a double in any statistic and can't play in the postseason at all. Who would want him? How many assets would you sacrifice in order to flew him off? I think a 1st round pick, Cam Thomas and DFS (who has 1st-round-pick worth) would be fair enough if the counter-offer is relativemy good. They don't loose that much of they pick capital -which they have a ton-, just a young player they haven't really trusted in (Cam) and a prominent but expendable role-player (DFS).

The returning of DLo to his former team maybe can revive that underdog culture they had, while also getting a capable player for the run and the benefit of two expirings after trading Beasly to Knicks and rejecting Fournier's TO the next season. This would create a good cap space for 2024 FA.

/// LAKERS.

Lakers' core has proved itself as one of the four best teams in NBA. However, DLo was not a possitive asset during postseason and he still wants a big contract. His situation is one of the most importants for them this offseason: should they renew him or S&T him to another place, looking for some draft capital -which they lack- or dynamic, 3&D type of guys, letting Bron run the 1 -as he is already doing, by the way. While the solution seems a one-or-another case, here they got both but also a big let down.

Do they need Simmons? Obviously not. Should they play Simmons? Obviously not. Will Simmons get better? Obviously not. But, what income should we expect from a guy who performed as bad as DLo, if Kyrie isn't a possibility better than a consistent, 40% 3P shooter, DFS, some urgent draft capital when Lebron retires and the appetizing gamble that represent Thomas? They didn't really need DLo to win, seeing he didn't show up in PO. Of course, they neither need Simmons. But a 3&D guy like DFS and maybe a prolific, autonomous scorer in Cam?

Also, they would be saving money in the deal because the 2 years Simmons has in front of the 4 DLo wants. From now to two seasons, Lakers may have an empty roster and the biggest market of all basketball.

/// SUMMARY.

I won't do it. But I would like to ask: is this the best way possible around the league to both get rid of Simmons in a reasonable sense for both teams involved? What would you propose?
